Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that he currently has no preferred presidential candidate for Nigeria’s 2027 general election, while making it clear that he will not support the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Davido made the disclosure during an interview with News Central TV on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, where he was asked about his political position ahead of the next presidential election and whether he would remain actively involved in the political process.
The singer’s comments come shortly after the conclusion of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, an election in which he played a visible role in supporting his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
While his uncle has publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027, Davido stressed that the governor’s decision does not automatically determine his own political choice.
According to the music star, he has not yet seen a presidential candidate who has convinced him enough to earn his support.
“My uncle, immediately he won, came out to declare his support for Tinubu, but for me, I’m not propelled to support anybody. I personally haven’t seen anybody,” Davido said during the interview.
The singer, however, drew a firm line regarding the ruling APC.
Davido said his position could still change as the political landscape develops, but ruled out supporting the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 presidential election.
“Right now I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, but it’s not going to be APC. Everybody should have their choice,” he stated.
His comments have added another layer to the growing political conversation surrounding the 2027 election, particularly as political parties, presidential hopefuls and influential public figures begin positioning themselves ahead of the contest.
Davido has previously demonstrated an interest in Nigerian politics and has openly supported political candidates at different times.
During the interview, he recalled his previous political engagements, explaining that he had supported former Vice President Atiku Abubakar when he contested under the Peoples Democratic Party. He also recalled campaigning for the APC during the period when the party was formed through a merger in 2013 and became a major political force ahead of the 2015 general election.
The singer also referenced his late uncle, Isiaka Adeleke, who was associated with the APC and was an influential political figure in Osun State.
His political journey has therefore not been limited to one party, something Davido used to explain his current decision to remain open to different possibilities while excluding the APC.
The latest statement is particularly significant because of his relationship with Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The Osun governor, who recently secured another term in office, has openly endorsed President Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election. Adeleke said his decision was influenced by his belief that Tinubu, whom he described as a son of Osun and the South West, deserves support to continue his administration’s programmes and projects.
Davido’s position is therefore different from that of his uncle, despite the two being closely connected politically and personally.
The singer was highly visible during the recent Osun governorship election, using his considerable social media following to mobilise support and encourage participation. His involvement attracted significant attention because of his enormous popularity among young Nigerians.
Following the election, Davido celebrated his uncle’s victory after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Ademola Adeleke the winner.
The election saw Adeleke of the Accord Party defeat the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, with 511,067 votes against Oyebamiji’s 444,815 votes. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam finished a distant third with 17,180 votes.
The outcome has since triggered fresh discussions about the political influence of celebrity figures and the role social media personalities can play in election campaigns.
Davido’s latest comments suggest that, despite his willingness to participate in political discussions, he does not intend to make an immediate endorsement for the presidency.
His decision could change as the 2027 election approaches, particularly as political parties unveil their candidates, manifestos and campaign strategies.
For now, however, the singer says his choice remains undecided.
What is certain is that he has excluded the APC from his options.
The declaration is likely to generate further reactions from political parties, supporters and other public figures, especially given Davido’s huge following among Nigerian youths and his increasingly visible participation in political affairs.
As the 2027 presidential contest gradually takes shape, attention will remain on whether the award winning musician eventually identifies a candidate to support or maintains his current position of political independence.
For Davido, the message at this stage is straightforward: he has no presidential candidate yet, but the APC will not receive his support.
