Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote allegedly contacted him to delete his social media posts during the Osun State governorship election.
Davido made the disclosure during an interview with News Central TV on Tuesday, while recounting the pressure he faced as he monitored the election and shared updates online.
The singer also alleged that more than ₦110 billion was brought into Osun State by political opponents to influence the outcome of the election.
“I just confirmed today. They spent N110 billion,” he said, adding that he had access to an insider who provided information about the alleged movement of cash during the election.
Davido said he and his family’s political team did not spend money on election day, relying instead on voters to protect their votes.
“We didn’t spend a dime on election day. All we could do was just pray that these people take their money and vote for us,” he said.
He also claimed that some Osun residents confronted individuals allegedly attempting to snatch ballot materials.
According to Davido, he received calls from prominent figures while he was posting updates about the election on X, formerly Twitter.
“I heard the Senate President was trying to call the collation centre… They were calling me to delete. I said sorry o. You guys have literally just gone against my uncle… I can’t delete anything,” he said.
He further claimed that Dangote also called him and asked him to delete his posts.
“Uncle Aliko called me too. I said, ‘Uncle, I’m not deleting until the INEC announcement,’” Davido added.
Davido said the eventual victory of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, demonstrated the influence of popular support over money and political power.
“My uncle should be an example to all other government officials and governors. When you stand by the people, the people will stand by you,” he said.
Davido has been actively involved in political discussions surrounding the Osun election due to his close family ties to the state. His late uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, was the first civilian governor of Osun State, while Ademola Adeleke is the current governor.
