LAGOS, NIGERIA — Nigerian pastor Korede Komaiya has sparked widespread reactions after telling worshippers that they could become millionaires within 90 days if they follow his teachings, while also claiming that some could rise to billionaire status within six months.

Komaiya, the founder of The Master’s Place International Church, made the remarks while preaching to members about what he described as supernatural speed and the power of God’s presence. His comments have since attracted significant attention online, with Nigerians debating the possibility and implications of his financial success claims.

Addressing worshippers during the sermon, Komaiya declared that people who followed his teachings could achieve millionaire status within three months.

“If you do what I teach, you will be a millionaire in 90 days, if not shorter,” the pastor said, according to reports of the sermon. He went further to tell his audience that those who followed his teachings could potentially cross into billions within six months.

The statement quickly became one of the most discussed aspects of the sermon, particularly because of the specific timeframe attached to the financial promise.

Komaiya’s message, however, was presented within a broader teaching about speed and divine intervention. He described life as a race and argued that speed was an important factor in determining how quickly people achieve their goals.

“Life is a race and in every race, speed is a determinant,” he told the congregation, repeatedly emphasising the importance of speed in the pursuit of success.

The pastor linked his message to the biblical account of the prophet Elijah, particularly 1 Kings 18:46, which describes Elijah being empowered by God to outrun King Ahab’s chariot.

Komaiya used the biblical account to explain what he called “supernatural speed,” arguing that divine empowerment could enable people to accomplish things beyond ordinary human ability.

According to the preacher, the source of such speed was not simply human effort but the presence, grace and power of God. He described the Holy Spirit, God’s grace and God’s presence as central to the supernatural acceleration he was teaching.

He also repeatedly emphasised the idea that divine intervention could allow people to overtake others and achieve results beyond conventional expectations.

The financial aspect of his message has nevertheless generated the strongest reaction. The promise of becoming a millionaire within 90 days presents an exceptionally ambitious financial timeline, particularly for followers who may interpret the statement as a guaranteed outcome.

Reports on the sermon indicate that the video circulated widely across social media, prompting both support and scepticism among Nigerians. Some viewers interpreted the pastor’s remarks within the context of his broader message about faith, discipline and divine acceleration, while others questioned the certainty of the financial claims.

The controversy surrounding the statement also reflects the continuing public debate in Nigeria over religious messages concerning wealth, prosperity and financial success. Religious leaders frequently speak about faith and breakthrough, but specific predictions about achieving substantial wealth within short periods can generate heightened public interest.

Komaiya’s message placed particular emphasis on the belief that supernatural intervention can accelerate a person’s progress. Rather than presenting the 90-day period solely as a conventional financial plan, he connected the promise to his teaching about God’s presence and supernatural speed.

The pastor’s comments have now placed the sermon firmly in the spotlight, with clips of his remarks continuing to circulate online.

While his statement has encouraged discussion among believers and social media users, the claim remains a declaration made during a religious sermon rather than an independently verified financial guarantee.

For those following the controversy, the central question is whether the statement should be understood as a literal financial promise, a faith-based declaration or an illustration of the pastor’s broader teaching about supernatural acceleration.

For now, Komaiya’s bold prediction has succeeded in generating widespread conversation, with his 90-day millionaire claim becoming the most prominent talking point from the sermon.
