The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is still reviewing the results of the Osun State governorship election before deciding whether to accept the outcome or challenge it.
The party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, made this known while appealing to APC supporters to remain calm following the election won by incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Oyebamiji said the party was still examining the results and would announce its position after completing its review.
“For now, the APC is still examining the books, and by the time we spread our sheet, we’ll be able to get back to the public and listen to what our own opinion and what decisions we want to take,” he said.
He also urged Adeleke to call on his supporters to avoid violence, saying attacks would only hurt the people of the state.
Oyebamiji disclosed that he had received reports of attacks in his community, Ikire, where he said about four or five people were allegedly attacked.
He said security agencies had been informed about the incidents.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner of the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke, who contested on the Accord Party platform, secured 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji of the APC polled 444,815 votes.
The election was followed by allegations of irregularities and vote-buying in some areas, with observer groups also raising concerns over incidents recorded at some polling units.
Oyebamiji said the APC had yet to reach a final decision on whether to challenge the result through the courts.
He also disclosed that he met President Bola Tinubu after the election, saying the President stressed the need for politicians to approach elections peacefully.
Oyebamiji called on residents and political supporters across Osun to maintain peace as the APC concludes its review of the election results.
