Anthony Gordon has revealed how quickly he has fallen in love with life at Barcelona, describing the Catalan giants as the best club in the world and admitting that the reaction from supporters exceeded his expectations.

The England international joined Barcelona from Newcastle United as the club’s first signing of the 2026/27 season and has made an encouraging start to his career in Spain.

Although Gordon has featured in only eight matches since arriving at Camp Nou, the winger has already established himself as an important attacking option. His contribution has included five assists, although he is still waiting to find the consistency in front of goal that he believes will come with time.

Gordon acknowledged that scoring regularly has historically taken him some time after moving to a new club. Rather than expressing concern about his current goal tally, the 25-year-old remains confident that the goals will eventually follow.

He has also been impressed by how quickly Barcelona supporters have embraced him.

The winger admitted that he did not expect such a warm reception from fans who have watched some of the greatest footballers in history represent the club, including Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and Luis Suarez.

According to Gordon, the supporters appear to value commitment as much as individual ability. He believes his willingness to work hard for the team has helped him establish a connection with the Barcelona faithful so early in his career at the club.

The England international also feels his arrival has allowed Barcelona supporters to see a broader side of his game.

At Newcastle, Gordon was often associated with his pace, aggression and ability to attack defenders directly. His time in Barcelona, however, has given him an opportunity to demonstrate his technical quality and contribute in different areas of the team’s possession-based system.

Gordon praises Barcelona teammates

Gordon has also credited several Barcelona players for helping him settle into his new surroundings.

Eric Garcia has been particularly helpful because of his ability to communicate comfortably in English. Gordon admitted that learning Spanish and Catalan has been challenging, especially when conversations become fast or involve several native speakers.

Dani Olmo has also played a role in helping him adapt to life at the club and in the city.

One of Gordon’s most interesting comments was reserved for Pedri. The England winger praised the Spanish midfielder’s awareness and ability to recognise movements that others might overlook.

Gordon suggested that some of his best dribbling moments in previous stages of his career may have gone unnoticed, but playing alongside Pedri has given him a teammate capable of recognising those movements and exploiting them.

Barcelona’s culture impresses the England winger

Beyond football, Gordon said he has been struck by the humility of the players and staff at Barcelona.

Despite the club’s enormous history and the quality within the current squad, he said the atmosphere is centred on hard work, ambition and collective improvement rather than individual status.

For Gordon, that mentality has reinforced his belief that he made the right decision by moving to Spain.

The winger also revealed that joining Barcelona was a childhood dream.

He described the moment he completed the transfer as surreal, particularly because of the club’s global reputation and its long association with an attractive style of football.

Guardiola’s Barcelona remains his favourite

When asked about the greatest Barcelona side he remembers watching, Gordon pointed to Pep Guardiola’s era.

The team featuring Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and other iconic figures left a lasting impression on him, particularly after its success in the UEFA Champions League.

Gordon also identified Messi and Suarez among his favourite players in Barcelona’s history.

The winger believes the club’s traditional philosophy remains visible despite tactical changes in modern football.

He described Barcelona’s football as being built around possession, control and dominating matches, while acknowledging that the current team also places significant emphasis on intense pressing.

For Gordon, those principles made adapting to the club’s style relatively straightforward because they reflect what he has admired about Barcelona for years.

Barcelona life winning Gordon over

The player’s positive experience has extended beyond the training ground.

Gordon praised Barcelona as a city, describing its atmosphere and people as welcoming. He is also making an effort to learn both Spanish and Catalan as he settles into his new environment.

He admitted that switching between English, Spanish and Catalan is not easy, but remains determined to improve his communication.

The winger also singled out Hansi Flick for his influence on his career.

Gordon credited the German coach with giving him the opportunity to play on a major stage and experience the connection between Barcelona’s players and supporters.

He also expressed appreciation for other managers who have contributed to his development, including Eddie Howe, Frank Lampard and Rafa Benitez.

With five assists already recorded, Gordon’s early Barcelona career has provided plenty of encouragement. The next challenge is turning that creativity into goals and establishing himself as a consistent attacking threat.

For now, the England international appears increasingly comfortable in Catalonia, and his enthusiasm for the club suggests Barcelona’s first major signing of the 2026/27 campaign is already beginning to feel at home.
