Barcelona produced a commanding second-half comeback to defeat Galatasaray 4-1 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, with Lamine Yamal inspiring the visitors through two assists in three minutes as Hansi Flick’s side recovered from an early setback in Istanbul.
The hosts threatened to upset the Spanish giants after taking the lead through Aleksey Batrakov, but João Cancelo equalised before the break. Fermín López and Anthony Gordon then struck in quick succession after half-time, with substitute Karim Adeyemi completing the victory to maintain Barcelona’s perfect start to their Champions League campaign.
Yamal was central to Barcelona’s revival, delivering two decisive assists and repeatedly troubling Galatasaray’s defence. His performance earned him the Man of the Match award, while a tense exchange with Mario Lemina during the first half added an extra edge to an encounter played in a hostile atmosphere.
Barcelona began brightly and created several opportunities before Galatasaray struck against the run of play in the 28th minute.
Rafael Leão drove forward down the left flank before cutting the ball back into the penalty area for Batrakov. The midfielder arrived in space and fired towards goal, with his effort taking a deflection off Cancelo before beating goalkeeper Joan García. The goal gave Galatasaray a 1-0 advantage and sent the home supporters into celebration.
The hosts nearly doubled their lead in the 36th minute when Barış Alper Yılmaz converted a corner routine involving Batrakov and Victor Osimhen. However, Barcelona were handed a reprieve after a VAR review ruled the goal out for offside.
The decision proved important as Barcelona gradually regained control of the contest.
The visitors finally found an equaliser in the 43rd minute through Cancelo. Dani Olmo recovered possession around the edge of the penalty area and played the Portuguese full-back into a promising position. Cancelo took advantage of the space, curling a right-footed effort into the far corner beyond goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır to make it 1-1.
Barcelona carried that momentum into the second half, and Yamal soon began to take the game away from the Turkish champions.
In the 50th minute, the teenage winger delivered a superb curling cross from the right flank into the penalty area. Fermín timed his run perfectly, rose above the defenders and directed a header into the net to put Barcelona ahead for the first time.
The goal changed the mood inside RAMS Park, and the visitors struck again just three minutes later.
Yamal collected the ball on the right and drove into the penalty area, using his close control and quick footwork to evade Eren Elmalı’s challenge. After the ball returned to his path, the winger maintained his composure and squared it across the area for Gordon.
The England international made no mistake, guiding a low finish past Çakır from a tight angle to extend Barcelona’s lead to 3-1 in the 53rd minute.
The two assists in quick succession underlined Yamal’s influence, as Barcelona’s movement and precision exposed Galatasaray’s defensive weaknesses.
The hosts struggled to recover from the double blow, while Barcelona continued to find spaces between the defensive lines. Flick’s side remained patient in possession and looked increasingly dangerous whenever Yamal received the ball in the attacking third.
Adeyemi, introduced from the bench, added the fourth goal in the 65th minute to put the result beyond doubt.
Yamal initiated the attacking move by playing the ball towards Gabriel Jesus inside the penalty area. Following Jesus’ involvement in the crowded attacking situation, the ball broke into Adeyemi’s path. The substitute reacted quickly and struck a first-time left-footed shot across goal and into the net, making it 4-1.
The goal completed an emphatic turnaround after Barcelona had spent part of the first half struggling to convert their possession into clear chances.
The match also featured a tense exchange between Yamal and Lemina during the opening period. The Barcelona winger became involved in a confrontation with the Galatasaray midfielder following a disputed challenge, with the incident adding to the intensity of the contest. The exchange did not develop into a major fight, but it reflected the pressure surrounding Yamal in an atmosphere where the home supporters made their displeasure clear.
Disciplinary action was limited, with Leão booked in the 64th minute and Roland Sallai receiving a yellow card late in the game. There was no red card.
Barcelona continued to threaten after Adeyemi’s goal, with García making important interventions to deny Osimhen and Leroy Sané as Galatasaray searched for a consolation goal. Adeyemi also had opportunities to add to his tally, but the score remained unchanged.
The final whistle confirmed an impressive away victory for Barcelona, who demonstrated their ability to respond under pressure and punish defensive mistakes.
For Galatasaray, Batrakov’s opener offered hope, but the disallowed second goal and Barcelona’s rapid second-half scoring sequence proved decisive.
For Barcelona, Cancelo’s equaliser restored belief before Fermín and Gordon took advantage of Yamal’s creativity. Adeyemi’s late contribution then capped a convincing performance.
Yamal emerged as the outstanding figure of the night, providing the decisive passes that transformed the match and helped Barcelona secure a second consecutive victory in the Champions League league phase.
