Lady Raises Alarm After Clicking WhatsApp ₦50,000 Grant Link

A Nigerian woman has cried out for help after allegedly losing money from her bank account following a click on a ₦50,000 grant link circulating on WhatsApp.

The woman reportedly said she began receiving debit alerts shortly after opening the link, which was being shared as an opportunity for people to access a ₦50,000 financial grant.

Her experience has raised concerns about fraudulent online offers and the tactics scammers use to deceive unsuspecting members of the public. Such schemes often promise cash assistance, grants or government benefits to persuade people to click suspicious links and provide personal or banking information.

Although the full details of the incident, including the amount allegedly deducted and the identity of those behind the link, have not been independently established, the woman’s account serves as a warning about the risks associated with unverified financial offers shared on social media and messaging platforms.

Members of the public are advised to avoid entering their bank details, card information, passwords or one-time passwords (OTPs) on unfamiliar websites. Anyone who has clicked a suspicious link and noticed unauthorised transactions should immediately contact their bank, block affected cards or accounts where necessary, change compromised passwords and report the incident through appropriate channels.

The incident has also renewed calls for people to verify grant announcements through official government or institutional platforms before engaging with them.

As the woman’s appeal circulates online, Nigerians are being reminded that not every offer of free money is genuine, and a link promising financial assistance could expose unsuspecting users to financial loss.
