Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy has broken his silence after facing backlash over an onstage altercation with a fan during his performance at the Greater Lagos Countdown 2025.

The incident occurred when a fan breached security and ran toward Burna Boy while he was performing. The unexpected intrusion prompted the artist to abruptly end his set, visibly frustrated, and exit the stage. The incident, where he kicked a fan, which was captured on video, quickly went viral, sparking mixed reactions from fans and the public.

In a statement released shortly after, Burna Boy explained his actions, stressing that the safety and well-being of his team and fans are always a top priority during his performances. He clarified that the fan’s sudden approach was a breach of security, which led to the abrupt end of the performance.

In response, Burna Boy took to his Instagram story on Wednesday to clarify his stance.

He wrote: “It was a free show. I was supposed to do 10mins and did almost an hour. Everybody knows my rule about getting on stage and startling me when I’m performing. I had an amazing time with Lagos state last night. Don’t jump on my stage like that. I got PTSD. I love you all. Happy New Year.
