Plans are underway for the League of Northern Democrats (LND), led by former Kano State Governor Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.

The group intends to transform into a political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

From the information made available to Diaspora digital media DDM, the LND seeks to provide a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It plans to collaborate with southern political pressure groups to create a strong platform.

Dr. Umar Ardo, the National Convener of the LND, recently outlined the group’s vision.

He emphasized its commitment to institutional reform and restoring democratic values.

Ardo stated that the LND aims to address Nigeria’s major challenges.

These include poverty, insecurity, inequality, corruption, and economic stagnation.

He blamed these issues on years of ineffective governance under the APC and PDP.

He noted that citizens are desperate for change.

The decision to transition into a political party was inspired by Salihu Mohammed Lukman.

Lukman is a former APC National Vice Chairman (North West).

Lukman had criticized the entrenched undemocratic practices within Nigeria’s dominant political parties.

His message resonated with the LND’s vision.

According to Ardo, the LND represents the aspirations of many Nigerians.

He explained that it offers hope to those disillusioned by the failures of the APC and PDP.

“This movement aligns with Nigerians seeking effective leadership,” Ardo said.

“It offers a chance to end the cycle of poor governance.”

The LND has been outspoken in its criticism of the APC and PDP.

It accused both parties of mediocrity and disenfranchising the Nigerian people.

In response, APC Director of Publicity Bala Ibrahim dismissed the LND’s plans.

He argued that the APC remains confident in its policies and programs.

Ibrahim described the LND’s accusations as baseless.

He welcomed the competition, stating that Nigerians will ultimately decide.

“This group poses no threat to our party,” Ibrahim said.

“We are ready to present our policies and agenda.”

He maintained that the APC’s programs are delivering positive results.

He expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.

“The APC has the best agenda for Nigeria,” Ibrahim asserted.

“We believe our policies will secure our re-election.”

The rise of the LND highlights growing dissatisfaction with Nigeria’s political status quo.

Many now question whether it can truly disrupt the dominance of the APC and PDP.
