Imo Diaspora Summit: Govt urged to create investment heaven

The just concluded Imo state Diaspora Summit 2025 held in Owerri,  stakeholders urged the Imo state government led by Senator Hope Uzodinma to create enabling environment for investment to thrive.

Imo citizens based in foreign countries of the world (Diaspora) gathered on the 4th of January 2025 at Protea hotel Owerri and discussed a way forward for Igbo people and Imo state.
The President General of Imo state leadership in Diaspora world wide , Chief Engr Sampson Udeh said there’s a perfect plan to showcase Imo talents to global audience with their resources and to invest at home.
He therefore urged the Imo state government to create an enabling environment for investment and other incentives to thrive to encourage indigenous investors.
In his speech, the Deputy President General Imo state Leadership in Diaspora, Hon Don Odunze noted that the  purpose of the summit was to create awareness and partner with the state government to assist in the developmental strides of the state.
Odunze calls for a peaceful, secure and safe environment where investment can thrive so as to create jobs for the youths
Mr Cyprian Ezem from Emekuku in Owerri North LGA of the state but resides in Belgium said his idea  was to come back home, create awareness and  contribute to the development of his state.
Chief Ezem who is the President of Igbo Union Antwerpen Belgium said they are having a good life in overseas and want to bring it down home.
He commented Governor Hope Uzodinma for his developmental efforts but noted that he cannot do it alone.
Ezem said instead of blaming ourselves or the environment, we should help to build it up.
He condemned the performance of the ministry of transport for not making policies that can control the recklessness of the drivers.
Hon Ezem added that such reckless driving attitudes have caused road accidents, killings and maiming of people.
” Many things are lacking in Nigeria. Here, there is no insurance, high cost of fuel, no electricity,” he noted.
” We want to let the government know that we all can do it together but we need directions from the government.
“The government can direct us by implementing the laws. Nigerians and Igbos are law abiding citizens. We need a government that can enforce the laws no matter whose ox is gored.
“In Diaspora, everything is working but when we come back home everything is hell, so we need to come together to make Alaigbo good and if we do, it will be well with us “, he stated.
 Another major stakeholder, Hon Chief Louis Izuchukwu Ononiwu who is the President General,Imo state union , Cote d’ivoire said the essence is to attract foreign direct investment to Imo state.
The Director of Media Imo state leadership in Diaspora world wide said the government should partner with the diasporians.
Ononiwu who is also the secretary of the Imo state Diaspora Summit 2025 said the government should ensure adequate security as it would convince the investors that their investment is safe.
“Health care, agriculture, industrial and other investments will be established in Imo state “, he stated.
