The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a change in the commencement date for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration.
Initially set to begin on Friday, January 31, the registration process will now commence on Monday, February 3.
JAMB stated that the postponement is necessary to implement crucial adjustments to its registration framework, Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports.
The Board’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in a statement shared on JAMB’s official X handle on Friday.
According to the statement, one of the reasons for the delay is the recent suspension of certain law programs at specific universities.
JAMB received reports from the Council for Legal Education regarding the affected programs, necessitating modifications to the registration process.
Additionally, JAMB discovered that some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers had obtained approval through deceptive means.
These centers reportedly misrepresented their facilities to meet JAMB’s accreditation requirements.
As a result, the Board decided to conduct further reviews to identify and disqualify such centers, ensuring that only properly accredited CBT centers participate in the UTME registration.
JAMB emphasized that this postponement might cause disruptions for candidates and other stakeholders who had planned to begin registration on the initial date.
However, the Board assured the public that the additional time would be used to make the necessary corrections, ensuring a seamless and transparent registration process.
JAMB extended its apologies to all affected candidates and institutions, emphasizing that the adjustment is in the best interest of maintaining the credibility of the examination process.
The Board reiterated its commitment to upholding high standards and integrity in the conduct of the UTME.
JAMB also urged candidates and stakeholders to exercise patience and prepare adequately for the registration once it commences on February 3.
To avoid complications, candidates are advised to stay updated with official announcements from JAMB and ensure they register only at accredited CBT centers.
JAMB warned that any candidate who registers at an unapproved center risks disqualification from the examination.
The Board reassured candidates that it is working to ensure a smooth and efficient registration process free from irregularities.
JAMB further advised CBT center operators to adhere strictly to the approved registration guidelines to prevent any further disruptions.
