DDM News

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has apprehended 25 illegal migrants working as farm laborers in Ogun State, reinforcing its commitment to enforcing immigration laws.
Diaspora digital media (DDM) reporters that the arrest took place in the Odogbolu Local Government Area following intelligence reports about the presence of undocumented foreign nationals.
According to the Ogun State Command of the NIS, all 25 individuals are male citizens of Benin Republic.
They were found working on a commercial farm without valid residence permits or travel documents.
Ogun State Comptroller of the NIS, A.M. Akadri, disclosed that an investigation revealed they had entered Nigeria through illegal routes.
None of the migrants could provide proof of legal entry or valid identification when questioned by officials.
The NIS, in an official statement on Thursday, confirmed the operation and emphasized the need for strict border control.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service arrested 25 illegal immigrants in Odogbolu following credible intelligence,” the statement read.
It added that the migrants were found in a hideout and were engaged in unauthorized employment.
“The profiling of the individuals confirmed that they are all male Beninese nationals working as laborers on a farm,” the NIS stated.
Further findings indicated that they had bypassed official border checkpoints to enter the country unlawfully.
Upon their arrest, immigration officers carried out detailed screenings to verify their identities and travel history.
The NIS stressed that none of them possessed residence cards, passports, or any form of legal documentation.
In response, Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, ordered their immediate repatriation to Benin Republic.
She reiterated the agency’s dedication to maintaining national security and preventing illegal migration.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to enforcing immigration laws and ensuring that only legal residents stay in Nigeria,” Nandap stated.
She also warned against employing undocumented migrants, stressing that violators would face legal consequences.
The NIS urged farm owners and other employers to verify workers’ immigration status before offering them jobs.
Authorities have heightened surveillance at border areas to prevent further unauthorized entries into the country.
This development highlights the NIS’s efforts to curb illegal migration and uphold Nigeria’s border integrity.
As the agency continues its operations, it encourages the public to report suspicious activities related to unlawful immigration.
The NIS assured that it would sustain strict monitoring and take decisive action against immigration law violators.
By enforcing regulations, the agency aims to enhance security and promote lawful residency practices across the nation.
