In the early hours of July 29, 2024, tragedy struck the Osaghae family in Auchi, Edo State.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that Fidelis Osaghae, a 33-year-old manager at Valchi Fast Food and Bar, died under mysterious circumstances at his workplace.

His wife, Esther, a nursing mother of a two-month-old baby, is seeking justice and clarity regarding his death.

On the evening of July 28, Fidelis left for work as usual.

Around 2:30 a.m. on July 29, he unexpectedly returned home on a motorcycle.

“He returned at 2:30 a.m., asked me not to close the door,” Esther recounted.

She explained that Fidelis had taken his car to work that afternoon but came back home on a motorcycle.

The bike was waiting for him outside.

He told her not to lock the door because he was going back to work.

His boss had asked him to bring something, so she left the door open.

That was the last time she saw her husband alive.

As dawn approached, Esther grew anxious because Fidelis had not returned.

She began calling his phone around 5:00 a.m., but he did not answer.

She reached out to Tracey, a supervisor at Valchi Fast Food and Bar.

Tracey assured her that “everything is under control” and ended the call abruptly.

Her anxiety intensified as she waited for further updates.

At approximately 6:00 a.m., Fidelis’s employer, Valentine Oyemike, called Esther.

He instructed her to come to Favour Hospital in Afasho, Edo State.

As a nursing mother, she could not go immediately.

She sent her elder sister, Etomi, to the hospital on her behalf.

Upon arrival, Etomi found Fidelis’s lifeless body in Mr. Oyemike’s car.

The hospital reportedly refused to admit him, stating he was “brought in dead.”

Etomi observed unusual marks and injuries on Fidelis’s body.

These injuries suggested he may have been tortured before his death.

Esther sought answers from Mr. Oyemike regarding the cause of her husband’s death.

Oyemike allegedly claimed Fidelis had committed suicide by ingesting poison at work.

Esther found this explanation difficult to believe.

She pointed out that Fidelis had no known reason to take his own life.

The visible injuries on his body further fueled her suspicions.

The handling of the case by local authorities has caused more distress for the family.

Esther alleges that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Auchi Division is biased.

She believes the DPO is siding with Mr. Oyemike without conducting a thorough investigation.

This perceived bias has eroded the family’s confidence in the police.

They fear the case may not be handled impartially.

The Akin Fadeyi Foundation (AFF), a civil society organization, has stepped in to help the Osaghae family.

The foundation has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

They are urging for a comprehensive and unbiased investigation into Fidelis’s death.

The petition highlights concerns about potential interference at the local level.

Mr. Oyemike is influential in the community, which raises fears of a compromised investigation.

The Edo State Police Command has since transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Despite this, no arrests have been made so far.

Esther and her family are still waiting for answers.

The tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage.

Many people in the local community are demanding justice for Fidelis.

Social media users have also joined in the call for transparency.

They want those responsible for Fidelis’s death to be held accountable.

The public remains vigilant as the investigation continues.

Many hope justice will prevail for Fidelis Osaghae and his grieving family.
