Trump sues news magazine for $20 billion over Ukraine, Greenland reports

The United States President Donald Trump on April 13, 2025, launched a fierce verbal assault on CBS News, 60 Minutes, accusing the programme of bias and dishonesty following its latest broadcast.

The President took to his X platform (formerly twitter) late Sunday night to criticize the popular newsmagazine.

He accused the show of constantly attacking him with what he called “defamatory” reports.

“Almost every week, 60 Minutes mentions the name ‘TRUMP’ in a derogatory and defamatory way,” Trump stated. “But this weekend’s broadcast tops them all,” he said.

He called on Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr to hit the network with severe penalties.

Trump urged the FCC to impose the “maximum fines and punishment” over what he described as “unlawful and illegal behavior.”

CBS News has not issued a statement in response to Trump’s allegations as of press time.

The latest broadcast featured correspondent Scott Pelley reporting from Ukraine.

He interviewed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy near the site of a Russian missile strike that killed nine children.

During the interview, Zelenskyy said he held “100% hatred” for Russian President Vladimir Putin and challenged Trump to visit Ukraine.

Also on Sunday, correspondent Jon Wertheim filed a report from Greenland.

The segment focused on local reactions to Trump’s controversial past suggestion that the U.S. should acquire the territory.

Trump was visibly enraged by both segments, accusing “60 Minutes” of abandoning journalism for political warfare.

“They are no longer a news show.

“They are a dishonest political operative simply disguised as ‘news,’” Trump wrote.

The president is already suing “60 Minutes” over its editing of an earlier interview with Kamala Harris.

Trump claims the show manipulated footage to favor the Democratic candidate. CBS denies the allegation.

The lawsuit, estimated at $20 billion, is reportedly moving toward possible settlement discussions between Trump’s legal team and CBS’ parent company.

Meanwhile, FCC officials have confirmed a separate probe into CBS News over the same matter.

This investigation is one of several launched against major media outlets, including ABC, NBC, PBS, NPR, and the Walt Disney Company.

Trump’s outrage underscores his continued clash with mainstream media.

His critics, however, see the attack as part of a broader strategy to silence dissent.
