The Abia born surgeon, who hails from Ohuhu in Umuahia North LGA, is the son Dr Okonjo Iweala.

He has broken medical record in far away United States.

Dr Uchechi Iweala, successfully performed a navigated lumbar spinal fusion using a robot, the first in the history of mankind in USA

Dr. Uchechi Iweala, son of World Trade Organization Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has indeed made a groundbreaking achievement in the United States.

According to reports, he successfully performed a navigated lumbar spinal fusion using a robot, becoming one of the first spinal surgeons in Maryland to do so.

Dr. Uchechi Iweala’s Achievements
– Pioneering Robotic Spinal Surgery: Dr. Iweala’s feat marks a significant milestone in the field of orthopedic surgery, showcasing his expertise in robotic spine surgery.

Fellowship-Trained Orthopedic Surgeon
He specializes in spine surgery, with a fellowship in spine surgery from New York University and residency training in orthopedic surgery at George Washington University.

– Research and Publications: Dr. Iweala has published numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed academic papers, focusing on minimizing re-operation after spinal fusion and maximizing care efficiency for spine surgery patients.

Background and Expertise
Education: Dr. Iweala earned his Bachelor’s degree with honors from Harvard College and received his MD/MBA from Harvard Medical School and Harvard Business School.

– Certifications: He certified by The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in Orthopaedic Surgery and affiliated with Ascension Saint Agnes Hospital.

– Global Health Initiatives: Dr. Iweala has worked on health projects in Ghana and South Africa and co-founded a surgery center in Nigeria with his father.

Dr Uchechi Iweala’s father is a medical doctor and a neurosurgeon based in the United States of America.
