Ronaldo did not disclose the specific details of the conversation or explain exactly what prompted his decision to leave the camp. Instead, he said he would reveal the reasons behind his departure to the Portuguese public at a later time.
The announcement comes only days after Ronaldo was left on the bench for Portugal’s 2-1 Nations League victory over Norway.
The Al-Nassr forward was an unused substitute throughout the match despite warming up on the touchline. His omission attracted considerable attention because Ronaldo had been a regular member of Portugal’s starting line-up for many years.
It was also the first time since June 2024 that he had remained on the bench for an entire competitive match while fit and available, according to reports.
