The Enugu State Youth Wing of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has announced a transformative conference set to take place in June 2025.

Enugu State is a vibrant region located in the southeastern part of Nigeria, known for its lush green landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and significant historical landmarks.

Often referred to as the “Coal City State” due to its historic coal industry, Enugu is not only a hub for economic activities but also a center for educational institutions and vibrant cultural festivals that showcase the diverse traditions of its people.

The state’s capital, Enugu city, is renowned for its bustling markets, delightful cuisine, and welcoming atmosphere, making it an attractive destination for both residents and visitors alike.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the event, titled “Bridging The Gap Between Youth And Police,” seeks to foster mutual understanding between law enforcement and young citizens.

According to Hon. Chiedozie Martins Ugwu, the State Coordinator of the PCRC Youth Wing, the conference aims to address decades of distrust and misunderstanding between police officers and young people.

He described the event as a timely response to rising concerns among Nigerian youths about law enforcement conduct, transparency, and mutual respect.

The conference will bring together youth leaders, students, law enforcement representatives, and stakeholders to deliberate on issues affecting security and youth-police relations.

Hon. Ugwu stated in an interview that the State Commissioner of Police and senior officers from other security agencies will attend and engage directly with the participants.

He emphasized that youth leaders must understand both their civic responsibilities and the critical role police officers play in securing lives and properties.

The event will also serve as an educational platform for young attendees to learn about conflict resolution, community security, and strategic development.

He noted that the conference will empower participants with knowledge on self-development and encourage active participation in community security architecture.

“We want youths to return to their communities better informed about the law and their role in shaping a safe society,” Ugwu said.

He added that understanding law enforcement procedures and protocols will help reduce tension and create a peaceful co-existence between both parties.

The event is scheduled for June 26, 2025, and will take place at the Superior Police Officers Mess, Uwani, Enugu.

The program is set to begin at 10:00 AM, with a lineup of speakers expected to share insights and strategies for youth empowerment and civic responsibility.

Arthur I. Eze JP, the State Public Relations Officer of PCRC, expressed support for the coordinator’s vision and called for wide participation.

He described the initiative as a legacy-building movement that amplifies the voices of past and future generations.

Mr. Eze urged youth and student organizations across Enugu State to seize the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue with security leaders.

He emphasized that the platform is designed not just for complaint resolution, but also for leadership growth and transformational engagement.

“The conference is about more than police relations,” Eze remarked.

“It’s about awakening the youth to their potential and guiding them through self-discovery and purposeful living,” he added.

The PCRC Youth Wing believes that building mutual trust between law enforcement and young people is essential for long-term peace and development.

The group stressed that dialogue, education, and collaboration remain the most effective tools for reshaping community-police relations.

This conference is expected to become a model for similar engagements across the South-East and beyond.

Enugu State continues to lead conversations around youth development, public safety, and participatory governance in Nigeria.

The PCRC Youth Wing maintains that empowering youths with knowledge and leadership skills is key to transforming the security landscape.

Organizers encourage civic-minded citizens and community-based organizations to attend and support the vision of unity, security, and progress.
