Babachir Lawal downplays APC governors’ endorsement of Tinubu, says anti-Tinubu coalition remains unshaken

Former SGF Babachir Lawal has dismissed the endorsement of President Tinubu by APC governors as irrelevant.

He stated that the opposition coalition is unbothered, even if all 36 governors and the FCT join the APC, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports.

“Let the governors continue to defect, we don’t care,” Lawal declared in response to the recent endorsement.

He emphasized that the coalition’s strength lies in grassroots mobilization, not elite endorsements or political defections.

Lawal stressed that the focus is on voters who suffer daily hardships, not politicians holding office.

Lawal is a central figure in the opposition alliance gearing up for the 2027 election.

This coalition includes prominent politicians like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai, among others.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that the coalition plans to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform.

Lawal described voters as “victims of the system we are against,” emphasizing the need for systemic change.

He criticized the APC-led government for failing to address pressing issues like hunger and economic hardship.

Lawal noted that political endorsements are out of touch with the real challenges Nigerians face daily.

He insisted the coalition is building momentum among citizens, not through alliances with political officeholders.

“The voter is what we are targeting,” he said, highlighting their focus on public dissatisfaction and community engagement.

Analysts say the endorsement of Tinubu by APC governors aims to strengthen internal party unity before 2027.

However, Lawal believes such moves ignore the economic and social realities confronting the Nigerian population.

He argued that the coalition’s strategy is more aligned with public concerns than with political showmanship.

Observers believe the involvement of Atiku, Obi, and El-Rufai signals a powerful challenge to the ruling APC.

Lawal stated that the coalition’s mission is to give Nigerians a voice and an option in 2027.

He added that the group is committed to using democratic means to push for national transformation.

“We are not interested in political games or token gestures,” Lawal affirmed in his closing remarks.

He concluded by emphasizing that their struggle is for the ordinary Nigerian, not for political power.
