Faith over funding: Oyedepo explains church’s 44-year financial independence

Bishop David Oyedepo has declared that the Living Faith Church has never sought foreign aid in 44 years.

He made this statement during the church’s Sunday service while addressing the role of mindset in prosperity, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathers.

According to Oyedepo, refusing financial help from other countries was a deliberate, faith-based decision from the ministry’s early days.

“We have never solicited any aid from any nation in 44 years of ministry,” he stated.

He explained that this was possible because poverty mentality had been crushed by divine insight and scriptural revelation.

Oyedepo added that during their time, it was common to seek foreign support, but they never joined that trend.

“Our mindset was already shaped by the Word of God; we had no room for begging,” he noted.

Quoting Proverbs 4:23, he emphasized that the heart is the source of all life’s issues and outcomes.

“You can’t think lack and find plenty. You can’t think poverty and walk into prosperity,” he warned.

He urged Christians to understand that internal thoughts shape external experiences, especially in matters of financial growth.

“No matter how generous you are, if your thoughts oppose God’s covenant, results will be blocked,” he said.

According to him, God checks the heart before placing anything of value into a person’s hands.

He stated that prosperity begins inside, not outside, and flows from a heart aligned with divine principles.

To support this, Oyedepo cited the example of King David’s desire to build a house for God.

“It was in David’s heart, and God said he did well that it was in his heart,” he explained.

He used this to show that God values what lies in a man’s heart even more than actions.

Referencing Psalm 19:14, he urged believers to let both their words and thoughts please God at all times.

“The meditations of your heart must align with God’s will for prosperity to manifest,” he emphasized.

Oyedepo challenged Christians to fill their hearts with scripture to enjoy abundance in every area of life.

“When your heart is rich in God’s Word, your life will reflect divine supply and provision,” he concluded.

He described the heart as the control room of destiny, determining what manifests in life.

The bishop maintained that lasting prosperity follows a mind and heart transformed by the truth of God’s Word.

His message reinforced the church’s long-standing teachings on biblical prosperity and financial independence through covenant practices.
