Burna Boy tells critics to burn in hell

Afrobeats sensation Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy is once again making headlines, this time, not just for his music but for his fiery clap back to critics questioning his upcoming performance in Burkina Faso.
In a post on the Instagram story of NSOW TV, the Grammy Award-winning artist responded with the bluntness fans have come to expect from him.
In a now-viral post, he said,
“If you don’t want me in Burkina Faso, go burn.”
Burna boy known for global anthems like Last Last and Ye, has been caught up at the center of social media controversy.
Some online users voiced their disapproval, suggesting that the show should be canceled, claiming that Burkina Faso was an inappropriate or “low-level” location for an artist of his caliber.
The comment immediately sparked debate across platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
Supporters praised the artist for standing his ground and refusing to let online negativity dictate his tour plans, while critics accused him of being too harsh and dismissive.
Still, this isn’t the first time Burna Boy has fired back at online hate.
Known for his confident, sometimes confrontational style, Burna has often used his platform to speak his truth whether it’s about politics, cultural identity, or his place in the global music scene.
Burna Boy has always stood for African unity
“Burna Boy has always stood for African unity and representation,” one fan tweeted.
“He performs everywhere because he believes every part of Africa deserves to experience world-class music live.”
Indeed, Burna Boy has performed in countries often overlooked by major international acts.
From South Sudan to Ivory Coast, he’s built a reputation for embracing every corner of the continent, and for refusing to cater only to elite or Westernized crowds.
Critics, however, argue that while his message may be empowering, his choice of words could use a little more finesse.
Whether people agree with his tone or not, one thing’s for sure Burna Boy is not backing down.
With his Burkina Faso concert still scheduled to go ahead, the artist is staying true to his pan-African mission and unapologetically doing things his way.
As the date draws closer, fans in Burkina Faso are more excited than ever to welcome the Afro fusion icon and Burna is clearly ready to give them a show they won’t forget.
