A coalition of pro-democracy groups under the Ondo Freedom Movement, has come out to give reply to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Chief Nyesom Wike, over his comments on the upcoming Ondo State governorship election, stating “Ondo is not Rivers.”

According to the Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), the coordinator of the group, Mr. Ayodele Idowu, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, highlighted the tireless efforts of Governor Seyi Makinde and other respected leaders in promoting Agboola Ajayi, the People Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.

As reported, the coalition slammed Wike, accusing him of sabotaging democratic leaders’ efforts to ensure a free and fair election in Ondo State.

Specifically, the group pointed fingers at Wike’s attempts to undermine Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts to promote a transparent electoral process where every vote counts.

Idowu in his statement sounded alarm on Wike’s recent remarks, which he said have only added fuel to the fire of public concerns about potential election manipulation by the APC.

The coordinator stated “Wike’s recent comments about pitying his friend Seyi, who’s trying to get a brother elected in the South West, hint at a plot to undermine the people’s will, and his movement is ready to push back against any attempts to subvert democracy.”

The statement continued “the people of Ondo State are reminded that their collective decision will ultimately determine the outcome of the forthcoming election, scheduled for Saturday.”

“It is imperative to acknowledge that Ondo State operates independently, distinct from Rivers State.”

“Consequently, the governance and outcome of civil activities, including the election, fall squarely under the jurisdiction of Ondo’s residents. Their will shall prevail, without any external threats, blackmail, or influence,” the coalition stated.

“The resolve to break free from APC’s perceived misrule remains steadfast, and the citizens’ voices will be heard through their ballots.”

The coalition pledged full support for Governor Makinde and PDP candidate Agboola Ajayi, ahead of the November 16 election in Ondo, stating that they are confident that the election will mark the beginning of a new era, free from repression and led by a leadership truly committed to the welfare of Ondo’s people.

The statement also emphasized that the people of Ondo State are ready to defend their mandate using every legitimate means available.

The movement urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the integrity of the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State, specifically warning against potential interference from the APC.

In addition, the movement group in the statement called on Governor Aiyedatiwa to rethink his candidacy amid widespread discontent with his administration, which has been described as one of the worst in Ondo’s history.

The movement also urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant as they exercise their right to vote and protect their democratic choices.
