Chief Dr. George Moghalu unveils Hon. Ifeoma Okaro as his running mate in the November Anambra governorship elections

Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate for Anambra State, Chief Dr. George Moghalu (popularly known as Ohamadike), has formally unveiled Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro as his running mate for the upcoming governorship election.

The announcement was made in a gathering that included executives of the party at the state, local government, and ward levels.

During the meeting held in Awka, the state capital, Dr. Moghalu addressed party stakeholders and emphasized the critical importance of grassroots engagement as the election approaches.

He called on ward and local government officers to intensify efforts in spreading the party’s ideals across communities and ensuring every voter is reached.

“Elections are won at the grassroots,” Moghalu stated.

“Let us return to our neighborhoods and speak directly to our people.

“The name on the ballot is the Labour Party, not George Moghalu.

“This is a collective mission, and every one of us must own it.”

He also took the opportunity to dispel any doubts regarding the commitment of former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party leader, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi.

According to Dr. Moghalu, Obi remains solidly behind the party and has pledged to actively participate in the upcoming campaign activities.

Moghalu expressed optimism that Obi’s presence on the campaign trail would provide an added boost to the Labour Party’s efforts as the November gubernatorial election draws nearer.

She assured the gathering that she would uphold the trust and responsibility placed in her by the party and its leadership.

“I am truly honored by this nomination,” Okaro said.

“Women have long waited for moments like this – to rise, to lead, and to make a difference.

“I promise not to disappoint.

“The time has come for us to demonstrate our strength and capacity.”

Hon. Okaro’s selection has been widely viewed as a strategic move, reflecting the Labour Party’s commitment to inclusivity and the growing demand for more female representation in governance.

Her experience and reputation at the community level are expected to help mobilize grassroots support, particularly among women and youth voters.

Also speaking at the event was Hon. George Ozodinobi, who represents Anaocha, Dunukofia, and Njikoka Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.

He acknowledged the scale of the task facing the party and cautioned against complacency.

According to him, while the Labour Party has gained considerable popularity in Anambra and beyond, success in the election would depend on sustained commitment and hard work.

“This journey will not be easy,” Hon. Ozodinobi warned.

“We are fully aware of the challenges ahead.

“Let no one underestimate the effort required.

“We must all be alert, strategic, and united in purpose if we are to emerge victorious.”

He also emphasized the importance of discipline, unity, and proactive engagement at every level of the campaign.

According to Ozodinobi, the outcome of the election would be determined not just by policies and promises, but by the ability of party members to connect with the electorate in meaningful ways.

The event served as both a formal introduction of the deputy candidate and a strategic planning session to energize party officials ahead of the crucial election.

Leaders at various levels of the Labour Party reaffirmed their commitment to the campaign and echoed Moghalu’s call for intensified grassroots mobilization.

As the Labour Party positions itself as a formidable contender in the November gubernatorial race, party leaders stressed the need for discipline, unity, and effective voter outreach.

With a strong ticket led by Dr. George Moghalu and Hon. Ifeoma Okaro, coupled with the anticipated support of Peter Obi, the party aims to present a credible and compelling alternative to the people of Anambra.

The campaign is expected to gain momentum in the coming weeks.

This comes as party structures across the state mobilize for what many observers predict will be one of the most competitive elections in Anambra’s recent history.
