JUST IN: Former Coast Guard Officer arrested over threats to kill Trump

Peter Stinson, a former U.S. Coast Guard lieutenant and trained sharpshooter, has been arrested for threatening to assassinate United States President Donald Trump.

According to reports, federal agents took Stinson into custody on Monday, June 16, 2025, in Oakton, Virginia.

Court records show that Stinson made repeated threats against Trump between 2020 and 2025.

He allegedly used social media platforms X (formerly Twitter) and Bluesky to post violent messages.

Stinson’s threats were direct, graphic, and detailed, according to the unsealed federal complaint.

Prosecutors describe him as a self-proclaimed member of the Antifa movement.

He also worked as an instructor for FEMA’s Incident Command System after leaving the Coast Guard in 2021.

In one 2020 post, Stinson responded to a user suggesting Trump be sued.

He replied, “Somebody ought to do more than sue the orange mf’s ass.”

He added: “It involves a rifle and a scope, but I can’t talk about it here.”

In another post, he said, “I’d be willing to pitch in $100 for a contract.”

Stinson continued, “We could solve the solvable part of this problem in a crack.”

His messages encouraged others to join in efforts to assassinate Trump.

Prosecutors say he repeatedly fantasized about killing Trump and urged others to act.

After the 2024 Butler assassination attempt on Trump, Stinson posted further disturbing messages.

He wrote, “Most of us are not capable… Execution is critical.”

He added, “You want to play in the big leagues, you need the talent.”

Stinson admitted he lacked sharpshooting skills to carry out the act himself.

But he offered to assist others, stating he would “drive” if someone else “pulls the trigger.”

Federal agents considered the posts credible threats against Trump’s life and security.

He was charged with multiple felony counts related to threatening the US president.

A magistrate judge ordered Stinson held in federal custody without bail.

His detention hearing is set for Wednesday, June 18, in Virginia.

Stinson has not entered a plea at this time.

The Secret Service and FBI are involved in the investigation.

This case comes amid heightened fears of politically motivated violence across the U.S.

Federal authorities say they are taking all such threats with extreme seriousness.

Prosecutors emphasized that threats to any former or sitting president will be prosecuted to the fullest extent.
