US President Donald Trump will only approve a peace agreement with Iran if it fully aligns with his administration’s key demands, a White House official said after a high-level meeting on the ongoing negotiations.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Trump spent nearly two hours with senior advisers in the White House Situation Room reviewing developments in talks aimed at easing tensions with Tehran.
“The meeting has concluded and lasted approximately two hours,” the official said. “President Trump will only make a deal that is good for America and satisfies his red lines.”
A central condition remains the administration’s insistence that Iran must never acquire a nuclear weapon.
The statement comes as Washington and Tehran continue efforts to reach an agreement that could reduce regional tensions and prevent further escalation in the Middle East.
While details of the proposed deal have not been made public, the White House has repeatedly stressed that any agreement must safeguard US national security interests and address concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme.
Trump has previously indicated that a final decision on the proposed deal is approaching, but administration officials say no agreement will be approved unless it meets all of the president’s requirements.
“Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon,” the White House official reiterated.
