Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the 2027 general election.
Makinde secured the party’s ticket on Saturday following an affirmation process conducted by APM leaders and delegates, who unanimously endorsed him as the party’s flag bearer for the next presidential race.
The development comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with major and smaller parties intensifying consultations, coalition talks and candidate selection processes.
Makinde’s emergence is expected to influence political calculations across the country as parties position themselves for what is shaping up to be a highly competitive contest.
The Oyo governor has recently been the subject of increasing calls from supporters and party stakeholders to seek the nation’s highest office. Several groups within the APM had publicly backed his potential candidacy in recent months.
Party officials described his endorsement as a strategic move aimed at presenting what they called a credible alternative in the 2027 presidential election.
More details on the nomination process and the party’s campaign plans are expected in the coming days.
