Gunmen has attacked highway in Imo state, killing about 30 people in the spot, DDM News gathered.

According to Amnesty International the attack resulted in the deaths of 30 people.

The organization called on the Nigerian government to investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable.

The attack occurred on a highway in Imo State, resulting in significant loss of life.

Amnesty International Calls on the Nigerian government to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice for the victims.

The incident underscores the need for improved security measures to protect civilians and prevent such attacks in the future.

Amnesty International has strongly condemned the brutal attack on travelers along the Okigwe-Owerri Road in Imo State, Nigeria, which left at least 30 people dead and over 20 commuter vehicles and trucks burned.

The organization described the incident as a “vicious attack” allegedly carried out by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Amnesty International has condemned the attack, describing it as a “callous disregard for the sanctity.

The organization has called on Nigerian authorities to immediately launch a transparent and thorough investigation into the attack and to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Amnesty International emphasized that international law requires the Nigerian government to promptly investigate unlawful killings with a view to bringing perpetrators to justice.

The organization urged all armed actors operating in southeastern Nigeria to halt their campaign of “vicious and unlawful killings”, warning that the continued violence is further destabilizing the region and endangering civilian lives.

In response to Amnesty International’s statement, IPOB has denied involvement in the attack, accusing the organization of making hasty conclusions and aligning with the Nigerian government’s narrative.

IPOB also called for an independent investigation into the attack.
