Hezbollah fumes: ‘We’ll respond as we see fit’ as Mideast teeters on brink

Hezbollah’s Secretary General, Sheikh Naim Qassem, has issued a fiery declaration in the wake of Israel’s military strike on Iran, warning that the powerful Lebanese militia will respond on its own terms.

“We will act as we see fit,” Qassem said, breaking his silence with a blunt message that further inflames fears of a broader regional war.

Qassem, delivering the comments in a televised address, made it clear that Hezbollah is fully aligned with Tehran.

“We are not neutral between Iran’s legitimate rights and the falsehood of America and its aggression, along with the cancerous tumor ‘Israel’ and the arrogant powers. We stand with Iran,” he said.

This marks Hezbollah’s strongest signal yet that it could enter the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, following days of strategic ambiguity and cautious statements.

Until now, the group had avoided direct threats, saying only that it would support Iran politically. Qassem’s statement changes the tone—and possibly the stakes.

Hezbollah, which has long operated as Iran’s most powerful non-state proxy in the region, maintains an arsenal of precision-guided missiles, rockets, and battle-hardened fighters.

Israeli officials fear that a coordinated move by Hezbollah could open a dangerous second front along the northern border, further stretching Israel’s already engaged military forces.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz had earlier issued a stern warning to Hezbollah, urging the group to stay out of the fight or face overwhelming retaliation.

But Qassem’s response appears to dismiss that warning entirely, instead casting Hezbollah as a willing partner in what it views as a justified defense of Iranian sovereignty.

While Hezbollah has yet to carry out any visible military action since the Israeli strike, the group’s rhetoric now points to a volatile new phase.

With tensions already boiling across Gaza, Syria, and the Gulf, the question is no longer if Hezbollah will respond—but when and how hard.

The region watches and waits, as the shadow of a full-blown war looms closer with each passing hour.
