DDM News

Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Sanni, Nigeria’s first female fighter pilot, has achieved another historic milestone in her groundbreaking career.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Sanni was named the Best Allied Student and also received the Best Assistant Commandant Paper Award at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) in Accra.
This was announced in a statement released on Saturday in Abuja by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
The awards were presented during the college’s graduation ceremony on Friday, attended by top military officials and dignitaries from across the African continent.
Sanni first made national headlines in 2019 when she became the first female fighter pilot in the history of the Nigerian Air Force, having completed her pilot training in the United States.
Since then, she has flown the Alpha Jet and participated in training sorties on the Super Mushshak, serving as a prolific instructor pilot.
She has also played a key role in mentoring and producing younger pilots for the Nigerian Air Force.
According to Ejodame, Sanni’s latest academic excellence at GAFCSC highlights not only her personal discipline and brilliance but also Nigeria’s growing influence in regional military cooperation.
Her success also reflects the Nigerian military’s expanding commitment to gender inclusion and the development of female officers in combat roles.
“This remarkable achievement further reflects the Nigerian Air Force’s strategic investment in human capital development,” said Ejodame.
He credited the accomplishment to the visionary leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, under whom the Nigerian Air Force has prioritized training and inclusion.
Sanni’s achievements continue to serve as a symbol of excellence and inspiration for aspiring women across Africa’s armed forces.
DDM celebrates her as a trailblazer and a proud representative of Nigeria’s aviation and military prowess.
