Tragedy: Roof collapse crushes couple to death in India

In a heartbreaking incident, a couple was killed late Sunday, June 23, 2025, after the roof of their mud house collapsed during heavy rainfall in Rasoia Dhamna Baratola village, under Barhi police station in Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand.

Trapped beneath the debris, the couple was later pulled out by villagers who immediately rushed them to Barhi Sub-Divisional Hospital.

Sadly, medical officials declared both of them dead on arrival.

Barhi SDO Johan Tudu confirmed that the couple was in the same room at the time of the collapse, while other family members in separate rooms managed to escape unharmed.

He added that a relief and rescue team reached the location swiftly and that the government would provide compensation to the bereaved family as per standard disaster relief guidelines.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that a low-pressure system moving from the Bay of Bengal is responsible for the intense showers currently pounding the state.

The monsoon officially entered Jharkhand on June 17, and since then, the state has recorded over a dozen rain-related fatalities, including that of children.

Injuries, property loss, and displacement have been reported in multiple districts.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms in districts including Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Ramgarh, Gumla, Simdega, Khunti, and others from June 24–26.
