Dangote Refinery: Northern Elders Warn Against Demarketing

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has urgently called on the Nigerian government to act decisively amid worsening security crises.

They described the nation as “bleeding from the North,” highlighting the escalating violence threatening peace and stability in the region.

The NEF’s statement underscores the critical need for immediate government intervention to halt further bloodshed.

Recently, the NEF condemned the brutal massacre of 18 innocent travelers in Plateau State’s Mangu Local Government Area.

The victims, including women and children, were ambushed and killed while en route to a wedding.

This horrific attack, which involved an official Ahmadu Bello University vehicle, starkly exemplifies the deepening insecurity in northern Nigeria.

Consequently, it demands swift justice to address the ongoing crisis.

Furthermore, Prof. Abubakar Jiddere, NEF spokesperson, emphasized that protecting citizens is a constitutional obligation, not merely a favor.

He warned that government inaction equates to complicity in the violence plaguing the region, stating, “This country is bleeding from the North.”

Moreover, the NEF highlighted that this massacre reflects a broader systemic security failure across northern Nigeria.

Specifically, in the North-West, communities endure mass abductions; meanwhile, the North-East battles persistent terrorism, and the North-Central region suffers from routine kidnappings and random violence.

In addition, the Forum demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the Mangu killings.

They stressed that justice must be swift, public, and equitable, while also calling on Plateau State authorities to accept accountability and provide restitution to affected families and institutions.

Moreover, the NEF urged a comprehensive federal security overhaul beyond symbolic gestures.

They demanded a strategic, well-funded campaign to reclaim northern territories from bandits, terrorists, and criminals.

Additionally, massive deployment of trained security personnel and intelligence assets to violence-prone areas is essential to restore peace.

Rejecting silence and tokenism, the NEF insisted on uncompromising, sustained action.

They expressed solidarity with victims’ families, the Giwa community, and Ahmadu Bello University, vowing to stand with all Nigerians suffering from insecurity.

“Enough is enough,” the Forum declared, calling for courage and honesty from the government.

As Nigeria faces this critical juncture, all eyes remain on the government’s response to the Northern Elders Forum’s urgent demands.

The nation’s future depends on decisive leadership to end the bloodshed and restore lasting peace.
