Osun APC Criticizes Amotekun’s Politicization, Demands Impartiality

Musibau Alade, a key All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in Osun State, has sounded the alarm over Amotekun Corps’ alleged politicization.

He claims the state government now deploys the security outfit to harass opposition figures, undermining its original purpose.

The uproar began after Wale Adebayo, an aide to ex-governor Adegboyega Oyetola, and other APC members faced arrest last week.

Supporters decried the detentions as politically motivated, igniting fears of a witch hunt against dissenters.

In a fiery Monday statement, Alade accused officials of twisting Amotekun’s role.

“This force was created to protect citizens, not settle scores,” he insisted.

He reminded the public that ex-Governor Oyetola championed Amotekun purely for grassroots security, never as a tool for suppression.

“Under past leadership, Amotekun stayed neutral,” Alade stressed.

“Now, it’s being weaponized, damaging its reputation and betraying public trust.”

He urged stakeholders to intervene and refocus the corps on its core mandate—safety over politics.

Osun Amotekun’s spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu, swiftly countered the allegations.

He defended the corps as impartial, emphasizing its strict adherence to legal and professional standards.

“Our operations serve all residents, regardless of party affiliation,” Idowu declared.

Idowu praised Commander Adekunle Omoyele’s stewardship, citing his widespread endorsement from traditional rulers and communities.

“His leadership fosters transparency and efficiency,” he added, dismissing claims of bias as baseless rumors.

As tensions simmer, the spotlight remains on Amotekun’s future.
