‘Go Back to South Africa’–Trump Explodes at Musk Over Subsidies

The simmering feud between President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk just reignited — and the stakes are sky-high.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump urged the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to launch a sweeping review of the billions in federal subsidies and contracts awarded to Musk’s companies, suggesting it could lead to massive savings for American taxpayers.
“Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history,” Trump wrote. “Without them, he’d probably have to close up shop and go back to South Africa. No more rocket launches, satellites, or electric cars — and we’d save a FORTUNE!”
The comment comes just hours after Musk blasted Trump’s controversial tax-and-spending bill, labeling it “insane” and “destructive,” and vowing to unseat any lawmaker who supported it after promising fiscal restraint.
Musk Fires Back on X: ‘CUT IT ALL’
On his social media platform X, Musk responded swiftly and bluntly:
“I am literally saying CUT IT ALL. Now.”
Musk has been openly critical of Trump’s legislation, which non-partisan analysts estimate will add $3 trillion to the U.S. national debt.
He even proposed launching a new political party, sarcastically calling the current leadership the “Porky Pig Party.”
Musk’s businesses — including SpaceX, Starlink, and Tesla — have benefited from substantial federal support.
SpaceX alone holds an estimated $22 billion in government contracts.
Market Fallout: Tesla Takes Another Hit
Tesla stock, which has already faced volatility from the ongoing Trump-Musk clash, took another hit.
On June 5, shares plunged by $150 billion in market value — the largest single-day loss in the company’s history.
On Tuesday, Tesla shares trading in Frankfurt fell by 5% following Trump’s latest remarks.
GOP Worries Grow Ahead of Midterms
Trump’s renewed attack on Musk — once a key ally and major campaign donor — is causing concern among Republican leaders as they prepare for the 2026 midterm elections.
Some worry that the feud may divide conservative voters and disrupt the party’s strategy.
Despite previously leading DOGE’s cost-cutting initiative and donating nearly $300 million to Trump’s re-election bid, Musk has become a vocal critic of the administration’s spending agenda.
Whether this billionaire-versus-president clash will reshape political dynamics or remain a headline feud is yet to be seen.
But one thing is clear neither man is backing down.
