Saint Lucian Senate President Alvina Reynolds highlighted the strong ancestral connections between Nigeria and Saint Lucia, citing a British census that revealed many Saint Lucians trace their origins to Nigeria.

Reynolds welcomed President Bola Tinubu to a joint session of Saint Lucia’s parliament.

Reynolds stated that 34% of Saint Lucians born in Africa have Nigerian roots, while 11% have Nigerian-Cameroon ancestry.

Tinubu’s visit was described as a “mission to reunite us with our homeland” and an opportunity for collaboration.

The transatlantic slave trade forged enduring cultural ties between Africa and the Caribbean.

Reynolds paid tribute to Sir Darnley Alexander, a Saint Lucian who served as Nigeria’s Chief Justice from 1975 to 1979.

Prime Minister Philip Pierre acknowledged deep ancestral and emotional ties with West Africa, calling Saint Lucia “a small fragment of Africa.”

Pierre proposed partnerships in tourism, air travel, creative industries, fintech, sports, and renewable energy.

He welcomed Nigerian contributions to Saint Lucia’s development, including healthcare, religion, and cuisine.
