Tinubu used Buhari’s burial to deceive the North — ADC
DDM News

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of using the recent burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari as a public relations strategy to regain favour in Northern Nigeria.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the ADC, in a statement released on Friday, described the President’s tribute to Buhari and the inclusion of the late president’s son, Yusuf Buhari, at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) as a “calculated PR stunt.”
The statement, which was signed by the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, accused the Tinubu-led administration of hypocrisy.
According to the ADC, the same government that spent over a year blaming Buhari for Nigeria’s economic struggles is now seeking to sanctify his legacy in order to score political points among Buhari loyalists.
“It is appalling that this government, which previously laid the blame for its economic failures at the feet of Buhari, now turns around to mourn him with carefully staged public events meant to repair its image,” the statement said.
The party declared that Nigerians are not deceived by what it termed “grief turned into campaign strategy.”
“Grief is not a campaign strategy,” the ADC said bluntly in the release.
The party also referred to the Tinubu administration as “an army of occupation,” alleging that it has governed for two years with arrogance, impunity, and insensitivity to the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.
They claimed that no amount of public relations can repair what they described as “the growing credibility crisis facing the current regime.”
This latest criticism from the ADC adds to a growing list of political opposition narratives questioning the legitimacy and tactics of Tinubu’s government as it continues to grapple with inflation, naira devaluation, subsidy removal protests, and insecurity.
While the burial of the late Muhammadu Buhari was expected to be a solemn national moment, the ADC’s statement suggests that the occasion may deepen political divisions, especially as Tinubu works to solidify his influence across all geopolitical zones.
As of press time, the Presidency has not issued a response to the ADC’s claims.
However, political observers believe the sharp tone of the ADC’s statement signals the beginning of more aggressive opposition in the months ahead, particularly as public discontent with economic hardship persists.
