Petro Extra partners Italy’s Chinetti to launch fire truck centres

Petro Extra Energy Services Limited has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Italian manufacturer, Chinetti Carrozzeria, to establish firefighting truck refurbishing centres across Nigeria.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the initiative aims to strengthen Nigeria’s emergency response infrastructure while creating jobs and improving technical capacity in the oil and gas sector.

The announcement was made during a high-level visit to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Head Office on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

Leading the Petro Extra delegation was the company’s Managing Director, Engr. John Eebu Yowika, accompanied by Engr. Fola Rotibi, the Nigerian representative of Chinetti Carrozzeria, a globally renowned firefighting truck manufacturer based in Milan, Italy.

During the visit, the team unveiled plans to roll out repairs and refurbishing hubs in major Nigerian cities, starting with Abuja and Port Harcourt.

The move is aimed at helping fire truck operators and emergency responders across Nigeria recover, upgrade, and maximize the use of existing firefighting assets.

Petro Extra Energy Services Limited is the exclusive Nigerian representative of Chinetti Carrozzeria, a company known for top-tier emergency vehicles and firefighting technologies worldwide.

The company has previously rendered services to leading institutions such as the Nigeria LNG (NLNG), NNPCL, and other multinational and indigenous oil and gas firms.

Speaking at the media briefing, Engr. John Yowika emphasized Petro Extra’s vision of delivering world-class, competitive services built on trust, transparency, and accountability.

He reaffirmed the company’s dedication to safety, quality, and environmental responsibility, noting that these values are central to their operations.

According to him, Petro Extra’s mission is not only to offer services but also to empower Nigerian youths through skill acquisition and industrial exposure.

Engr. Yowika explained that the company has fully aligned with Nigeria’s local content policy from inception, actively supporting indigenous participation in the oil and gas industry.

He stressed that Petro Extra’s projects are executed almost entirely by local personnel, except in cases where specific technical expertise requires expatriate input.

He also highlighted the company’s ongoing involvement in equipment maintenance, plant services, firefighting system support, and facility upkeep across Nigeria’s energy sector.

“We have approved procedures in place that cover critical areas of our operations,” he said.

“These procedures align with global industry standards and meet regulatory requirements.”

Yowika added that Petro Extra is fully certified and capable of competing with any international outfit in the same sector.

Also speaking, Engr. Fola Rotibi revealed that the partnership with Chinetti will allow Petro Extra to expand its capacity to meet growing industry demands.

He said the collaboration would eventually lead to localized manufacturing of core firefighting components currently imported from abroad.

“We aim to start producing materials and equipment that are vital to the industry but are not easily available in Nigeria,” Rotibi added.

He emphasized that the centres would also help improve Nigeria’s self-reliance in emergency response technology and reduce downtime for critical firefighting equipment.

The company intends for these refurbishing hubs to become centres of excellence, training young Nigerians while providing high-quality service to clients.

Among the other top executives present at the unveiling were Miss Zina Yowika, Executive Director; Engr. Isiaku Samkwai, Chief Operating Officer; Miss Sharon Elenwo, Head of Accounts; and Mr. Inyang Ekanim, Personal Assistant to the Managing Director.

Petro Extra is currently engaged in major oil and gas service contracts, construction work, and environmental remediation projects across Nigeria.

The proposed firefighting truck refurbishing centres in Abuja and Port Harcourt are expected to become operational in the coming months.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the initiative as a timely and strategic move to improve Nigeria’s firefighting and disaster management capabilities.
