Soludo trashes Obi’s SABMiller legacy, delivers nothing to Anambra
DDM News

(DDM) – Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, is facing renewed criticism following his remarks about the SABMiller Brewery project in Onitsha, a venture widely celebrated as one of the most successful public-private investments in the Southeast region.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that a concerned citizen, Miss Mmesomachukwu Emmanuella, took to social media to challenge the governor’s rhetoric, calling on him to replicate or surpass the enduring legacy of his predecessor, Mr. Peter Obi.
SABMiller Brewery, now operating under the global brewing giant AB InBev, was established during Peter Obi’s administration.
The project marked a significant milestone, not only as the first of its kind in the Southeast, but also as one of the largest breweries in Nigeria.
The Obi-led government positioned the state as an equity partner in the brewery, a strategic move designed to drive industrialization, increase revenue, and create employment.
However, Governor Soludo, in a recent statement, appeared to downplay the significance of the brewery, stating that it does not rank among the top five tax contributors in the state.
He noted that the brewery is “only sixth,” an assertion interpreted by many as an attempt to diminish Obi’s achievements.
Miss Emmanuella, reacting to the comment, questioned the motive behind the governor’s stance, suggesting that such remarks reflect misplaced priorities.
According to her, even if the brewery ranks sixth in tax contribution today, its establishment remains a major accomplishment in a state where attracting a single credible industrial investor is no easy feat.
She argued that instead of undermining the project, Governor Soludo should focus on presenting his own equivalent of the SABMiller investment.
Her post emphasized that transformational governance is not measured by political statements but by measurable and lasting outcomes.
Peter Obi’s tenure, she noted, was marked by fiscal prudence, evidence-based budgeting, strategic investments, and successful public-private partnerships.
The SABMiller brewery, according to her, continues to generate direct and indirect jobs, boost the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR), and position Anambra as an industrial hub.
In contrast, critics say Soludo has yet to attract a comparable global investor or initiate a landmark project that could serve as a legacy for future administrations.
While his academic credentials and economic theories are undisputed, citizens like Miss Emmanuella argue that results, not rhetoric, should define leadership.
She also took issue with Soludo’s repeated jabs at Obi, whom he referred to as “just a trader.”
According to her, that “trader” left behind a debt-free Anambra, built robust financial reserves, improved education, and established legacy investments like SABMiller.
“The time for talk is over,” she declared in her post. “Let your legacy speak.”
As the political atmosphere heats up in Anambra ahead of the next electoral cycle, observers say Soludo will likely face increasing public scrutiny, not just for his academic brilliance, but for his ability to deliver tangible results.
The people of Anambra, Miss Emmanuella insists, are watching, and they demand more than excuses.
