Why Obi, El-Rufai are yet to join ADC — Bolaji Abdullahi

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified why key opposition figures Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai haven’t formally joined the party despite their alignment with its coalition.

According to ADC Interim National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, both leaders were given time to complete ongoing electoral processes in their respective parties.

He said this during a weekend media briefing in Abuja.

The delay is a strategic decision to allow Obi and El-Rufai to finalize pending elections and transitions within their former parties.

Both leaders have assured the ADC of their commitment and will join fully at the appropriate time.

The party has seen significant defections, including former PDP Governors’ Forum Director-General CID Maduabum, who cited the PDP’s “moral collapse” as his reason for leaving.

The Obidient Movement in Ebonyi State has warned the ADC against selling its presidential ticket to the highest bidder, emphasizing the need for internal democracy and credibility in candidate selection.

Abdullahi reassured supporters that the ADC is confident in the legality of its steps and has closed potential loopholes the ruling party might exploit.

Former Voice of Nigeria Director-General Osita Okechukwu doubts any ADC leader can replicate late President Muhammadu Buhari’s grassroots appeal.

As the ADC grows, supporters demand transparency and ideological clarity, with cracks already appearing in the party’s unity.
