(DDM) – Popular Nigerian musician and activist, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, also known as Charly Boy, has once again spoken out against the Nigerian political system.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the outspoken entertainer made the remarks during an interview with Channels Television, where he expressed deep-seated skepticism towards the ruling class in Nigeria.

According to Charly Boy, Nigerian politicians have consistently failed the masses and are more interested in protecting their personal interests than serving the people.

He said that for the past two decades, he has never trusted any government in power, and he has no plans to change that stance now.

“For the past twenty years, I have never trusted any government in power, and I won’t start now,” he stated bluntly in the interview.

Charly Boy, known for his fearless political commentary and advocacy, urged Nigerians to stop wasting time on distractions and focus their energy on the 2027 general elections.

He insisted that the people must become more politically aware and participate in decisions that will shape their future.

The artist argued that many African leaders, especially in Nigeria, are obsessed with building political empires for themselves and their families, rather than improving the lives of the citizens.

He described most politicians as selfish elites who only remember the people during elections, and then disappear after seizing power.

Charly Boy’s comments come in the wake of a controversial decision by the Bariga Local Council Development Area in Lagos to rename the ‘Charly Boy’ bus stop after another music icon, Olamide Adedeji, also known as Baddo.

Though he did not directly address the renaming in his interview, many Nigerians on social media have linked the move to political retaliation or generational shifts in popularity.

Charly Boy, however, redirected attention to what he considers the real issue, the absence of leadership and the betrayal of democratic values by successive governments.

He called on young people to rise above the noise and mobilize strategically for the 2027 elections, warning that another round of political apathy would only deepen national suffering.

For years, Charly Boy has been one of Nigeria’s most consistent voices for social justice, using his platform to criticize corruption, misgovernance, and military-style democracy.

He is the founder of the ‘Our Mumu Don Do’ movement, a civic campaign that challenges government impunity and promotes youth participation in governance.

As Nigeria approaches another electoral cycle, Charly Boy’s message reinforces a growing call for civic accountability and a generational shift in power.

Whether Nigerians will heed his warning and act remains to be seen, but his message is clear

The people must take back their future, or continue to suffer in silence.
