Dangote Cement has announced the launch of a major project in Côte d’Ivoire.
The company plans to commission a three million tonnes-per-annum grinding plant by the third quarter of 2025.
This move will significantly increase its presence in Francophone West Africa. In addition, it will help the company ramp up export capacity from Nigeria.
Arvind Pathak, Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement, shared the update during a recent briefing.
He explained that exports from Nigeria rose by 18.2 percent over the past quarter.
According to him, the company made 18 clinker shipments to Ghana and Cameroon during that time.
This growth reflects rising demand for Dangote’s products across the region. It also supports the firm’s broader pan-African expansion strategy.
Furthermore, Pathak said the company is working to cut costs and reduce its carbon footprint.
As part of that goal, Dangote has begun deploying 1,600 compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks. He stated that these trucks would lower transportation expenses and boost environmental performance.
“Every step we take aligns with long-term growth and sustainability,” Pathak emphasized.
In terms of financial performance, the company posted strong results for the second quarter of 2025.
Group EBITDA surged by 41.8 percent to reach ₦944.9 billion. Net profit also soared by 174.1 percent year-on-year.
Pathak attributed the positive results to strict cost control and steady demand.
He stressed that strategic investments and operational discipline continue to drive solid returns.
Dangote Cement currently operates a combined production capacity of 52 million tonnes per year across Africa.
In Nigeria alone, the company maintains 35.25Mta capacity, anchored by its massive Obajana plant in Kogi State.
Other key Nigerian plants include the 12Mta Ibese facility in Ogun State, the 4Mta Gboko plant in Benue, and the 3Mta Okpella site in Edo.
Because of these assets, Nigeria now enjoys cement self-sufficiency.
Moreover, the country has become a regional exporter, especially to West African neighbors.
Beyond Nigeria, Dangote Cement also runs facilities in Ghana, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Senegal, Tanzania, and South Africa. It maintains additional operations in Zambia, Sierra Leone, Republic of Congo, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Ultimately, this latest expansion into Abidjan marks a key milestone. It highlights Dangote Cement’s mission to lead infrastructure development across the continent.
