Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a stern warning about the future of Nigeria under continued APC rule.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that El-Rufai delivered this message during his grassroots mobilization campaign in Sokoto State on Saturday, August 3, 2025.

Speaking to a large gathering of political stakeholders and community leaders, El-Rufai declared that Nigeria’s national cohesion could be irreparably damaged if the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains in power beyond 2027.

El-Rufai, now aligned with the opposition coalition operating under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), did not mince words in his critique of the ruling party.

He described the APC as “incompetent, clannish, and dangerous to Nigeria’s future,” drawing loud applause from the Sokoto crowd.

The former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister emphasized that his involvement in the movement was not motivated by personal gain but by patriotic duty.

“I didn’t join politics to enrich myself but to serve,” he said.

He added that when leadership fails, it is the obligation of every citizen to rise and take corrective action.

El-Rufai stressed that the decision by the opposition to adopt ADC as their political platform was strategic and intentional.

According to him, the coalition aims to offer Nigerians a viable and unifying alternative in the 2027 general elections.

He warned that if Nigerians allow APC to continue beyond its current term, the remaining strands of national unity might be lost forever.

“This is not just an election, it’s the fight of our lives,” El-Rufai stated firmly.

He lauded the enthusiastic turnout in Sokoto, saying he was inspired by the energy and determination shown by both the grassroots and political elites.

The rally attracted attendees from all 23 local government areas of Sokoto State, with heavy representation from youth and women’s groups.

In a show of solidarity, former Senator Abubakar Gada, a well-known political figure in Sokoto, also addressed the gathering.

Gada echoed El-Rufai’s warnings, pledging that the opposition coalition would deliver credible leadership at both state and federal levels.

He criticized the APC for what he termed “institutional failure and deliberate economic sabotage” affecting millions of Nigerian households.

Political analysts describe El-Rufai’s Sokoto visit as a major step in an aggressive nationwide campaign aimed at challenging APC’s dominance.

According to insiders, the ADC-led coalition plans to replicate similar rallies in key battleground states over the next six months.

El-Rufai’s direct criticism of his former party, the APC, marks a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of 2027.

He once served as a founding member and leading voice in the APC, making his recent defection and attacks particularly symbolic.

Observers believe El-Rufai’s alignment with ADC gives the coalition a powerful voice capable of mobilizing votes across northern and southern states.

His speech in Sokoto was punctuated by chants of “Rescue Nigeria” and “ADC! The People’s Voice!” from excited supporters.

El-Rufai also hinted at new endorsements from key northern leaders who are set to join the opposition coalition in coming weeks.

The rally concluded with a symbolic presentation of ADC flags to local mobilization units tasked with coordinating door-to-door campaigns.

With the political temperature rising, El-Rufai’s remarks have already drawn fierce reactions from APC loyalists across social media platforms.

Some party insiders accuse the former governor of betrayal, while others claim his actions are driven by presidential ambitions.

El-Rufai has not officially declared any intention to run for president but remains one of the most influential figures in northern Nigeria.

The ADC-led coalition is expected to unveil its full political strategy before the end of the year, including a national policy document and possible candidate lineup.

As Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 election season, El-Rufai’s involvement may become one of the defining forces in opposition politics.
