Don’t blame Tinubu for North’s problems — Shehu Sani

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani is defending President Bola Tinubu, saying the challenges facing Northern Nigeria aren’t because of Tinubu’s policies but due to failed leadership by past Northern leaders.

Sani pointed out that during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure, the North remained impoverished with industries like KTL, UNTL, Nortex, and Arewa Textiles being abandoned.

Sani blamed past Northern leaders for the region’s poverty, insecurity, and decaying infrastructure.

“We had Buhari in power for eight years, yet the North remained impoverished.

“Industries like KTL, UNTL, Nortex, Arewa Textiles, and others were abandoned. Our leaders chased personal gains, not the people’s progress,” he said.

He said it’s “deceptive and unjust” to blame Tinubu for problems that have been decades in the making.

Sani cited abandoned projects like the Kaduna-Abuja road, Minna-Abuja road, and Ajaokuta Steel Company as proof of leadership failure.

He commended Tijjaniyya Grassroots Mobilisation and Empowerment Initiative of Nigeria for empowering women and youths to tackle poverty and foster peace.

Sani warned against blaming Tinubu for the North’s problems and cautioned against returning failed leaders to power, saying “No matter how bad things may seem now, know this — your brothers from the North failed you. If they return to power, nothing will change”.
