CDC lifts lockdown at Atlanta campus after all-clear from police

(DDM) – The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has lifted the lockdown at its Atlanta headquarters after authorities declared the area safe.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the CDC issued a text message to staff confirming that the all-clear had been given and the immediate threat was over.
“Local law enforcement continues to clear Roybal Campus buildings but has determined that there is no longer a threat to CDC staff,” the message stated.
Despite the clearance, the agency said all Atlanta-area CDC campuses would remain closed until further notice.
The message came after local police carried out a thorough sweep of the premises, ensuring there was no danger to employees.
Details of what initially prompted the lockdown have not yet been disclosed, but officials said the precaution was necessary to protect workers at one of the nation’s most critical public health institutions.
The CDC’s Roybal Campus in Atlanta serves as the agency’s central hub for disease prevention, outbreak response, and health research. Any potential security threat to the facility often draws heightened concern due to its sensitive operations and the critical role it plays in both national and global health emergencies.
While normal operations are expected to resume once security protocols are fully completed, the agency has advised employees to await further instructions before returning to work.
Law enforcement agencies are yet to provide additional information on the source of the initial security alert.
