Nigerian journalists currently in Cote D’Ivoire to cover the 2023 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, say cost of living and operating the francophone West African country is so high.

They also expressed big surprise that naira, the Nigerian currency is very much a legal tender in the country.

“That is the only pleasant surprise here considering the cost living here,” said Abdul Momoh, Confederation of Africa Football, CAF, accredited photojournalist told DDM in chat this morning.

“A totally decrepit hotel that shouldn’t go for as high as N3, 000 in Ilorin, Kwara’s capital goes for N25, 000.

“Can you imagine that a taxi trip cost us as much N15, 000,” he asked totally bemused.

He also complained about the food which, according to him are way too expensive.

Olayinka Owolewa, also a Nigeria based journalist but also in Cote D’Ivoire made similar claim.

“How do you load an MTN 7 Gig internet data with N10, 000,” asked  Owolewa.

Momoh and Owolewa are in Yamasukro, one of the match venues of the continental soccer fest
