In a landmark technological breakthrough, China on April 20, 2025, officially launched the world’s first commercial 10G broadband network, achieving download speeds of 9,834 Mbps and upload speeds of 1,008 Mbps.

The new service marks a major leap in global internet technology and sets a new benchmark for ultra-fast connectivity.

China Telecom announced the launch last week in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province.

The 10G broadband rollout follows extensive testing and infrastructure upgrades in key regions.

Engineers used advanced optical fiber technology to deliver stable, ultra-high-speed internet to homes and businesses.

Officials said the service will support cloud computing, AI development, virtual reality, and ultra-HD video streaming.

Wuhan is the first city in China to offer full coverage of the 10G network.

China Telecom said it will expand the network to other major cities in the coming months.

The company added that the network will strengthen China’s push for digital transformation and industrial modernization.

According to technicians, the 10G network delivers speeds nearly ten times faster than current mainstream gigabit broadband.

With a 9,834 Mbps download rate, users can download a full HD movie in less than a second.

The 1,008 Mbps upload speed supports real-time cloud backups and smooth video conferencing.

China Telecom explained that the project aligns with national goals for high-quality digital infrastructure.

Industry experts said the rollout places China ahead of the U.S., Europe, and Japan in residential broadband technology.

They noted that 10G technology will drive innovation in smart homes, autonomous vehicles, and telemedicine.

Local residents who tested the new service praised its speed and reliability.

Small businesses in Wuhan also reported major improvements in data transfer and productivity.

Telecom analysts say global telecom firms may now speed up their own plans for next-generation broadband.

China Telecom has not announced full pricing, but officials promised competitive rates.

With this launch, China takes a bold step toward a hyper-connected digital future.
