Harry Kane has added another major individual honour to his remarkable career after being voted Germany’s Footballer of the Year for 2026 following an outstanding campaign with Bayern Munich.
The England captain was recognised after producing one of the most prolific seasons of his career, scoring 61 goals in 51 competitive appearances for Bayern across all competitions. His extraordinary numbers helped the Bavarian giants secure domestic success and further strengthened Kane’s reputation as one of the most dangerous strikers in world football.
Kane received 272 votes in the annual award conducted by the Association of German Sports Journalists, finishing comfortably ahead of his Bayern teammate Michael Olise, who collected 203 votes. Deniz Undav came third with 61 votes.
The award provides another significant recognition for Kane, who has continued to rewrite his own history since moving to Germany from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023.
The 33 year old striker enjoyed a sensational 2025/26 campaign, scoring 36 Bundesliga goals and finishing as the league’s leading scorer. His performances also earned him the European Golden Shoe for the second time, confirming that he was the most prolific goalscorer across Europe’s major domestic leagues.
Kane’s goals were central to Bayern’s success throughout the season. The German giants successfully defended their Bundesliga crown and also lifted the German Cup, giving the England international another collection of major domestic honours.
His contribution was not limited to league football. Kane scored 61 goals in all competitions and delivered a particularly memorable performance in the German Cup final, where he scored a hat trick to help Bayern complete their successful campaign.
The award also highlights the transformation Kane has undergone since arriving in Munich. Initially viewed as a player who had achieved almost everything possible individually in England but had yet to win major club trophies, Kane has now established himself as a key figure in Bayern’s successful era.
His influence has extended beyond goals. Under Vincent Kompany, Kane has enjoyed greater freedom in attack and has become increasingly involved in linking play, creating opportunities and contributing to Bayern’s overall attacking structure.
Kompany’s contribution was recognised alongside Kane’s achievement, with the Belgian coach named Germany’s Coach of the Year after guiding Bayern to the domestic double. Kompany reportedly received 314 votes, comfortably finishing ahead of his closest rivals.
The dominance of Bayern Munich players continued in the women’s category, with Giulia Gwinn receiving the Women’s Footballer of the Year award. Her victory meant the three major individual honours in Germany all went to members of the Bayern organisation.
For Kane, however, the recognition is particularly important because it adds to an increasingly impressive collection of individual awards since his move to Germany.
He has now won the Bundesliga’s top scorer award on multiple occasions and has twice claimed the European Golden Shoe during his Bayern career. His consistency has also placed him among the leading candidates for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
Bayern officials have publicly backed Kane for the prestigious award after his extraordinary season. His combination of goals, trophies and individual records has strengthened his case, although the final decision will be made later in the year.
Kane’s success in Germany has also changed the conversation surrounding his future. His contract with Bayern currently runs until 2027, and the club has already begun discussions about a possible extension. Kane has previously admitted that his desire to return to the Premier League has become less intense after enjoying such a successful spell in Munich.
That represents a significant change from the early stages of his Bayern career, when speculation about a possible return to England remained constant.
The striker now appears fully settled in Germany and is focused on adding more trophies to his collection. Bayern will be hoping Kane can maintain his extraordinary scoring form as they begin another campaign with ambitions of dominating German football and finally going further in the Champions League.
For England, Kane’s form is equally encouraging. Despite being in his thirties, the striker continues to operate at an elite level and remains one of the most important players in the national team.
His latest individual award therefore represents more than recognition for another prolific season. It is evidence that Kane has successfully established himself as one of the defining figures of modern German football.
After 61 goals, another European Golden Shoe and another Bundesliga title, Harry Kane has now been officially recognised as Germany’s Footballer of the Year.
