Abducted Kebbi High Court Judge Regains Freedom After One Week

Justice Faruku Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has regained his freedom after spending one week in captivity following his abduction by suspected gunmen.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the judge’s release in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, CSP Bashir Usman.

According to the police, Justice Bunza returned home safely on Monday, with his release confirmed by both his family and the Kebbi State Ministry of Justice.

The Command disclosed that although the abductors demanded a ransom, no payment was made, in line with the police policy against negotiating or paying kidnappers.

It added that security agencies had intensified efforts to identify and arrest those behind the abduction.

“The Command has stepped up investigations to ensure those responsible are tracked down and brought to justice,” the statement said.

The police appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation, assuring that all information would be treated confidentially.

The Command also thanked residents of the state and other security agencies for their cooperation and support throughout the rescue efforts.

A member of Justice Bunza’s family also confirmed his release, expressing gratitude to God and everyone who supported the family during the ordeal.

“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for bringing him back safely. He has returned home after spending one week in the hands of the bandits,” the family member said.

The family also appreciated the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies and residents of the state for their prayers, encouragement and solidarity during the period of his captivity.

According to the source, details surrounding the circumstances of the judge’s release would be made public at a later time.

Justice Bunza was abducted last week by suspected gunmen, prompting a rescue operation by security agencies. Authorities have vowed to continue investigations until those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted.
