ADC Slashes Nomination Fees, Adjusts 2026 Primaries Schedule

The African Democratic Congress has trimmed the cost of its presidential nomination form and unveiled a fresh timetable for its 2026 primaries, as the party tries to steady itself ahead of the next election cycle.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the presidential form has been reduced from ₦100 million to ₦90 million following consultations with party leaders, aspirants, and other stakeholders.

Other categories were also reviewed. Governorship forms are now priced at ₦30 million, Senate at ₦10 million, House of Representatives at ₦5 million, and State Assembly at ₦2 million.

The party is also maintaining its discount policy cutting fees by half for young aspirants between 18 and 35, and offering a 25 per cent reduction for women and persons living with disabilities.

Alongside the price adjustment, the ADC rolled out a detailed schedule for its primaries.

Sale of forms ran from May 1 to May 4, while submission is set for May 6 to May 13. Screening of aspirants will take place on May 14 and 15, with results expected two days later.

Appeals are slated for May 18 and 19, followed by the release of the final list of cleared aspirants on May 20.

Legislative primaries  covering State Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate  are fixed for May 21, with governorship primaries coming a day later.

The presidential primary is scheduled for May 23, after which the party will move into its National Executive Committee meeting on May 25 and a special national convention on May 26.

According to Abdullahi, the changes are aimed at making the process more inclusive and accessible, while also strengthening internal party democracy.

He urged aspirants to stick strictly to the new guidelines as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace.
