ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company has announced a planned two-day power outage in parts of the Federal Capital Territory as authorities prepare to relocate critical electricity infrastructure affected by ongoing road construction projects.

According to the electricity distribution company, the temporary disruption will affect several communities within the Lugbe and Gaduwa areas of Abuja during the scheduled maintenance and relocation exercise.

AEDC explained that the outage became necessary to ensure the safe movement of electrical facilities and transmission components located along sections of the road expansion corridor.

The company stated that the affected infrastructure must be relocated to allow uninterrupted progress on the road construction project currently underway in the affected districts.

Residents and businesses in impacted communities have been advised to prepare for temporary disruptions in electricity supply throughout the maintenance period.

The utility provider noted that technical teams and engineers would be deployed to carry out the relocation works while observing safety and operational standards.

Officials said the planned outage is part of broader infrastructure coordination efforts between electricity authorities and road construction contractors in Abuja.

Communities expected to experience interruptions reportedly include sections of Lugbe, Gaduwa, and nearby districts connected to the affected power lines.

AEDC appealed to customers for patience and understanding, assuring residents that electricity supply would be restored immediately after completion of the exercise.

The company also warned residents to treat all electrical installations and disconnected lines with caution during the maintenance operation.

Some residents expressed concern over the inconvenience the outage may cause, particularly for businesses, households, and small enterprises dependent on stable electricity supply.

Others, however, acknowledged the importance of infrastructure upgrades and road expansion projects aimed at improving transportation and urban development in the capital city.

Power supply disruptions have remained a major concern for many Abuja residents, with businesses often relying on alternative energy sources during outages.

Analysts note that infrastructure development projects frequently require temporary electricity interruptions when utility installations overlap with construction corridors.

AEDC officials emphasised that the planned outage is temporary and necessary to support long-term infrastructure improvement efforts.

The company encouraged affected customers to make adequate arrangements during the outage period, especially businesses and institutions requiring uninterrupted power supply.

Authorities also assured residents that measures are being taken to complete the relocation work within the scheduled timeframe to minimise inconvenience.

Attention now shifts to the execution of the infrastructure relocation project and the timely restoration of electricity supply to affected communities in Abuja.
