Akwa Ibom APC Youths shun #EndBadGovernance Protest

Youths of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State have heeded Apostle Abasiandikan Nkono’s plea to desist from participating in the #EndBadGovernance Protest, for the sake of upholding peace and guaranteeing an enabling environment for the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration to succeed.
Apostle Nkono, who is Akwa Ibom State Representative on the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), cautioned the youths against participating in the upcoming protests, emphasizing that it would be a misguided venture.
“We must guard against being deceived to join forces with those who seek to destabilize our region. The demands of the protesters do not align with our interests,” he warned.
Nkono continued, “we have to know the masterminds of the protest. Having a refinery in our region is not part of the demands of the protesters, so why should we be part of their protests?
The Ogoni cleanup, the East West Road, these are our concerns, these things are not part of their demands. We desire patience and progress, not chaos and destruction.”
The NDDC Commissioner, who is also the political leader of the APC in Eket Local Government Area, hailed the federal government for making moves to meet the yearnings of the citizens.
This, he said, are manifest in the authentication of the minimum wage increase, granting of autonomy to Local Government Councils, soon-to-commence empowerment of 10,000 youths in the Niger Delta, improved security and others.
He praised the youths for their wisdom, saying, “I am proud of our youths for their resolve. We must work together to build a brighter future, not tear each other apart,” adding that “we must give President Tinubu time to implement his plans, and we must support Senator Akpabio’s efforts to bring peace and prosperity to our region.”
The youths, led by the APC Youth Leader Hon. Clement Awakessien, assured Nkono that they would not participate in the protests.
Awakessien said, “I want to reassure you, the federal government and the Senate President, our son, Senator Godswill Akpabio, that our youths will not participate in the protests.”
He attributed the peace enjoyed in the state to Senate President whom he described as a builder of men.
“Akwa Ibom remains the largest producer of crude oil but it’s the most peaceful oil producing area, someone made that possible in the person of Senator Godswill Akpabio as Governor between 2007 and 2015. He was turning boys into men. There are so many people who would have been on the creeks today like their counterparts in other states but they were harnessed. some are Local Government Chairmen, House of Assembly members. We can never allow them (sponsors of the protest) use us to plunge the state into chaos.”
The meeting ended with a resolute commitment to peace and stability in Akwa Ibom State and the Niger Delta region, as the youths and Nkono unanimously opposed the idea of protesting in Akwa Ibom State.
