Vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has said he would withdraw as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate and campaign for President Bola Tinubu if petrol sells for ₦600 per litre.
Amaechi made the statement on Friday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
The former Rivers State governor criticised the Tinubu administration over the rising cost of living, arguing that the removal of the petrol subsidy without adequate measures to cushion its impact had worsened hardship for Nigerians.
Amaechi said he would personally visit a filling station on Saturday to verify whether petrol had dropped to ₦600 per litre.
He said, “If fuel has come down to 600, I will campaign for President Tinubu.”
Amaechi added that if the price reached the stated level, he would withdraw from the 2027 presidential race as Atiku’s running mate and support Tinubu.
He also described the 2027 presidential election as critical to the welfare and survival of Nigerians, urging voters to make an informed decision.
